Runners Raise £4K for Families of Sick and Tiny Babies

Twenty-two runners took to the streets for the Cardiff Half Marathon 2025, raising an incredible £4000 in support of the Cwtsh Clos appeal – a campaign helping families of premature and unwell babies cared for at Singleton Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The Cardiff Half Marathon, one of the UK’s most popular road races, attracts thousands of participants each year who run for fitness, fun and fundraising for charities close to their hearts.
This year, Principality Building Society generously gifted 20 charity places to Swansea Bay Health Charity as part of their ongoing commitment to the Cwtsh Clos appeal, which they have championed since its launch last year. Two further runners joined the team independently, fundraising under their own steam to show their support.
One runner, Bethan Phillips, said:
“So many people had told me about the incredible atmosphere at Cardiff Half Marathon and it did not disappoint! The crowds carried me through the city and at mile 8, I saw another Swansea Bay Health Charity runner which reminded me of the great cause we were running for. I’m really proud to have completed Half Marathon number 4, but even prouder to have raised £370 for such a fantastic cause”.
Thanks to the remarkable efforts of community fundraisers and corporate partners like Principality, the Cwtsh Clos appeal is now 99% funded, just shy of reaching its £160,000 target. But the race isn’t quite over yet. This week offers two special opportunities for locals to help cross the finish line.
On Wednesday 8th October, Mal Pope’s Homecoming Concert will dedicate 10% of profits to the Cwtsh Clos appeal, followed by Cwtsh by the Coast on Sunday 12th October, where participants will walk from Mumbles to the Cwtsh Clos houses to celebrate the campaign’s incredible success with food, music and community spirit.
Every pound and every participant counts. If you’d like to help bring the appeal home and make a lasting difference for local families, please get involved. Register now to take part in this weekend’s Cwtsh by the Coast walk.
