Mal Pope’s Mission to Conclude Cwtsh Clos Appeal

Acclaimed Welsh singer-songwriter and ambassador for the Cwtsh Clos Appeal, Mal Pope will take to the stage at Swansea Arena on Wednesday 8th October for a very special Homecoming Concert, celebrating his lifelong love of music while giving back to a cause close to his heart.
The evening promises an unforgettable mix of Mal’s best-loved songs alongside brand-new material, including his moving new single, Best of Times. The single carries deep personal meaning, as it was inspired by the short but precious life of his grandson Gulliver, who spent his first few days at Singleton Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Gulliver’s story also makes a feature in the official music video.
This concert is about more than music. Mal is using the occasion to say a heartfelt thank you and to make one last, generous contribution to Swansea Bay Health Charity’s Cwtsh Clos Appeal. The appeal, which was launched in July 2024, aims to raise funds to transform NICU facilities for families at Singleton Hospital, creating more privacy, comfort and dignity for those experiencing the most challenging of times.

Mal has been a proud ambassador of the Cwtsh Clos Appeal since the beginning, helping to shine a spotlight on the vital difference these improvements will make. Now, he has announced that 10% of profits from the Homecoming Concert will be donated to the appeal, giving the charity a vital boost towards reaching its final fundraising target. With £15,000 still to go, Mal hopes his concert can help push the total over the finish line.
Speaking about his decision to support the appeal, Mal said:
“Cwtsh Clos has been such an important project for me and my family. After everything we went through with little Gulliver, I wanted to find a way to say thank you to the staff who care with such love and compassion every single day. Music has always been my way of connecting, and I hope this concert will not only be a celebration but also a chance to make a real difference for families in the future.”
On the night, audience members will also see a special video highlighting the impact of the Cwtsh Clos Appeal, meet the Swansea Bay Health Charity team and enjoy a performance from the Swansea Bay University Health Board Choir, who will appear both in the reception area and on stage.
There will be opportunities to support the appeal through bucket collections, and charity information will be displayed in the Arena’s VIP spaces and big screens throughout the evening.
Charity Support Manager, Lewis Bradley, is incredibly grateful to Mal for choosing to dedicate his Homecoming Concert to the Cwtsh Clos Appeal, expressing:
“Mal’s story has touched so many of us. His support over the past 14 months has been an enormous asset to our appeal, and we’re nearly there! With just £15,000 left to raise, every ticket sold brings us closer to creating a cosy, private and dignified space for families in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The difference this will make for generations to come is immeasurable, and we’re so proud to have Mal standing alongside us on this journey.”
By joining Mal for this special night of music, reflection and celebration, you’ll not only enjoy an incredible performance but also help Swansea Bay Health Charity make the Cwtsh Clos vision a reality for families across Wales.
