Singleton Cancer Prehab Watt-Bike Challenge

The Cancer Prehabilitation Team at Singleton Hospital are gearing up for an inspiring 10-hour Wattbike Challenge on Tuesday, 7th October, in support of the ‘Going the Extra Mile’ appeal – a Swansea Bay Health Charity initiative. This fundraiser will take place at Singleton’s main entrance raising money for the Cancer Centre where the team regularly supports patients getting them ready for their Cancer Treatment.
The event is more than just a form of raising money. The Cancer Prehabilitation Team aims to demonstrate their dedication to empowering patients through prehabilitation, by putting their own advice into action. The Wattbike Challenge highlights the importance of physical activity, which is one of the three pillars of prehabilitation alongside nutrition and psychological wellbeing.
“We’re doing this challenge to show our patients that we’re with them every step of the way,” said Luke Myatt of the Cancer Prehabilitation Team. “We use these very facilities to support patients before their treatment, and we want to ensure they remain available, welcoming, and well-equipped. Every mile we cycle is a step toward better outcomes for those facing cancer.”
Prehabilitation helps patients build strength, resilience, and confidence ahead of surgery or treatment. Patient, Shirley Skyrme recently shared:
“I am currently having the privilege of being treated by the newly formed Cancer Prehabilitation Service at Singleton Hospital. I wish to put it on record that I am having the most excellent treatment and care at a very difficult time in my life. The team are giving me confidence and hope for my upcoming surgery.”
The Cancer Prehabilitation team aims to raise £500 for the Going the Extra Mile for Cancer appeal from online donations via their fundraising page, and on-the-day donations, so please show support however you can.
About the appeal
Swansea Bay Health Charity’s Going the Extra Mile for Cancer appeal aims to raise £200,000 to transform the old Chemotherapy Day Unit at Singleton Hospital into a modern, welcoming outpatient suite. This new space will provide a warm, supportive environment for patients and their families during some of the most difficult times of their lives.
