Fantastic Fundraising: Touched by Cancer Special

With just a few days to go until Touched by Cancer, our teams have been ‘Going the Extra Mile’ to raise money, resulting in an impressive £35,700 so far.
Every team has played their part, which is why we wanted to dedicate this Fantastic Fundraising to our 20 touch rugby teams taking to the pitch on Saturday 8th August!
Taibach Taigresses

The Taigresses have been busy fundraising through a successful spiritualist evening with Nataly Churchill, alongside raffles and collections at their home matches. They have raised £800 so far and are determined to keep adding to that total.
“Cancer has touched each and every one of our lives in one way or another. Among our team there are women who have lost loved ones, women supporting loved ones who are currently battling cancer, and thankfully, loved ones who have come through the other side.” Ria shares.
“Behind every Taigress taking to that field is her own story and her own reason for wanting to make a difference.
“Every one of us will be carrying someone with us when we step onto that field on 8th August.”
The team hope supporters will come along and be part of what promises to be a memorable day.
“Touched by Cancer is about far more than a game of rugby. It’s about community, friendship, remembering those we’ve lost, standing beside those who are still fighting and doing our little bit to make a difference.
Pontardawe Daffs

July has been packed with fundraising for the Pontardawe Daffs, from their Daffs Bingo Bonanza and Curry, Karaoke & Chaos Night to their ongoing Miles & Smiles Challenge. Every event has helped bring the team one step closer to tournament day.
The cause is one that’s close to every member of the team.
“Like so many people, many of our families have been affected by cancer. On top of that, one of our own teammates has faced an incredibly difficult year, showing unbelievable strength and resilience throughout. Seeing someone so close to us go through such a tough journey has made this cause even more personal.” Beth shares.
Port Talbot Pantheresses
The Port Talbot Pantheresses have raised £864 through a Stars in Your Eyes evening, a curry night, raffles and donations, and a special Pen y Fan fundraising walk to round up their fundraising. This year, the Pantheresses are excited to make their first appearance as an official team!
“Come along, it is great to watch or get the opportunity to participate like we have and be a part of the cause.” Angharad says.

Baglan Bombshells
The Baglan Bombshells have taken fundraising to another level this summer. Their latest challenge saw the team cover an incredible 1,317 miles in just 36 hours, alongside hosting tournaments, sponsored walks and quiz nights. They’ve already raised an outstanding £6,275!
Michelle from the Bombshells encourages everyone to experience the day for themselves:
“Come along and be part of something truly special.
You’ll see some fantastic touch rugby, but what you’ll really experience is the passion, togetherness and community spirit that makes this event so unique.”

Bryncoch Broncettes
Bryncoch have raised an incredible £6,769 through community fundraising events including a Curry Night, Brew Run Club, Music Bingo Night, Paint Along Evening and Ruth’s Memorial Tournament.
Louise from the Broncettes shares that every event is dedicated to their much-loved teammate, Ruth:
“This tournament holds a very special place in all of our hearts. It is so much more than a day of rugby. When our beautiful friend and teammate Ruth was diagnosed with cancer, her goal was to finish her chemotherapy and take to the pitch with us at the tournament. Sadly, that wasn’t to be, and we heartbreakingly lost Ruth just weeks before the tournament took place.
Now, every event we organise, every pound we raise, and every game we play is done in her memory. Her strength, determination, and smile continue to inspire us every single day.”

We’re absolutely thrilled see the local teams sharing our passion for cancer care. Our next step is to put on an incredible event, fundraise with passion, and hit the £200,000 fundraising target for the Going the Extra Mile for Cancer Appeal! Come along to Ystradgynlais Rugby Club on Saturday 8th August to hopefully celebrate with us.
