Charity Ride Raises £75K for Welsh Cancer Services

This year’s Jiffy’s Cancer 50 Challenge set out to raise £50,000 for Swansea Bay Health Charity and Velindre Cancer Charity. Fundraising as part of their participation, 445 cyclists surpassed this target with pride, raising an impressive £75,000 – and counting!
Cyclists completed the 56-mile ride from Cardiff to Bracelet Bay on Sunday 16th August, accompanied by rugby stars Jonathan “Jiffy” Davies and Alun Wyn Jones. Supported by 1,508 donors, this year’s event once again brought together cyclists of all abilities, united by a shared determination to support cancer patients and their families across South West Wales. The ride set off from Cardiff at 8am before arriving at Bracelet Bay throughout the afternoon.

Riders enjoyed a well-earned rest stop at Morgan’s Hotel, which kindly provided complimentary refreshments before participants completed the final stretch of the route with a police escort through Mumbles to The Lighthouse.
The challenge, championed by Jonathan “Jiffy” Davies, continues to raise vital funds for Swansea Bay Health Charity and Velindre Cancer Charity, helping to enhance cancer care and support for patients across South Wales.
For many participants, the challenge was deeply personal. One of this year’s riders was Andrew, who previously shared his story of taking on the challenge after receiving treatment at the South West Wales Cancer Centre at Singleton Hospital. He entered the challenge as a way of giving back to the NHS teams who cared for him and his family.

Former Wales rugby captain Alun Wyn Jones, who also completed the ride, praised the atmosphere and the people behind the event.
He said:
“Everyone was in good spirits. We gathered at Morgan‘s Hotel. Very grateful they put on a bit of a spread and then we had a police escort to The Lighthouse.
“I am just pleased to be here to support Velindre and Swansea Bay Cancer Centres but credit to Jiffy for all the work he’s done and supporting the charities, and people who have taken part today.”
Following another successful year of the cycling event, Jonathan “Jiffy” Davies urges more people to join and help a worthy cause:
“Please join us next year. We need to raise more and more money for a couple of local cancer charities.”
Lewis Bradley, Charity Manager at Swansea Bay Health Charity, said:
“To see 445 riders come together and raise nearly £80,000 for local cancer services is nothing short of incredible. Every rider, volunteer, sponsor and donor has played a part in making a real difference for patients and their families across South West Wales.”

The funds raised through this year’s challenge will help Swansea Bay Health Charity and Velindre Cancer Charity continue providing enhancements that make a real difference to the experience of cancer patients and their loved ones.
The 2026 challenge concluded with hundreds of riders crossing the finish line at Bracelet Bay, celebrating another successful year of fundraising, community spirit and support for local cancer services.
