Passionate Parents Raise £1600 for Singleton NICU
Dart-a-thon Thank You: Bridgend Parents Raise £1,600 for Singleton Hospital’s NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit).
When Jade and Gareth James from Bridgend wanted to say thank you to the staff who saved their baby daughter’s life, they picked up their darts and hit the bullseye – literally.
The couple organised a 12-hour dart-a-thon, raising £1,600 for the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Swansea’s Singleton Hospital. Their daughter Daisy was rushed there shortly after birth for specialist care after being diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a rare condition where the heart muscle thickens.
Jade recalled the harrowing experience: “It took CPR to revive her, and she was sedated for 12 days. But thanks to the incredible team at Singleton NICU, Daisy pulled through.”
After spending over five weeks in hospital, including three and a half in NICU, Daisy is now home with her parents. Though she faces challenges like persistent pulmonary hypertension and feeding issues, Jade and Gareth are by her side every step of the way.
To give back, the couple hosted a raffle and presented their donation during a special Christmas party for Singleton NICU families. Jade said, “We can’t thank the NICU staff enough. The care they gave Daisy was phenomenal.”
Dr. Joanna Webb, Consultant Neonatologist, expressed her gratitude: “We’re thrilled to hear Daisy is doing well and deeply appreciate Jade and Gareth’s generosity.”

The Cwtsh Clos appeal is raising £160,000 to refurbish five homes away from home for families with sick and tiny babies in Singleton Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This ensures that families can remain close to their babies in a comforting environment during this tough time. Musician and broadcaster Mal Pope is backing our campaign in memory of his grandson Gulliver, who was cared for in the NICU.
