Fantastic Fundraising: October

NICU Donation from Swansea County Court
Swansea County Court has raised an incredible £2,392.40 for Singleton Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), inspired by colleague Aimee Spooner’s personal experience with the unit.
In 2023, Aimee gave birth to her son Milo at just 29 weeks, 11 weeks earlier than expected.
“It was a frightening and emotional time, but we were so lucky to be cared for by the exceptional team at Singleton NICU. Their compassion, skill and dedication meant the world to us during one of the hardest times in our lives.”
When Aimee returned to work, she nominated Singleton NICU as the office’s charity of the year – a cause that quickly captured everyone’s hearts. Over the following months, staff organised bake sales, raffles, and even a ‘pie the manager’ challenge, all to raise vital funds for the NICU team who go above and beyond for families every day.
“This cause is so close to my heart,” Aimee added. “I’m incredibly proud of my colleagues and what we’ve achieved together to give something back to the amazing NICU team.”
Their donation will help the unit continue providing life-changing care to babies and families across South West Wales.
Singleton Cancer Prehab Team Completes 10-hr Wattbike Challenge
The Cancer Prehabilitation Team at Singleton Hospital raised over £900 after taking on a 10-hour Wattbike Challenge in support of the Going the Extra Mile for Cancer Appeal.
The team worked tirelessly throughout the day at Singleton Hospital’s main entrance, pedalling mile after mile to raise funds for the Cancer Centre, where they support patients in preparing for their treatment through exercise, nutrition, and emotional wellbeing.
Their dedication was met with incredible support from passers-by, including hospital staff and patients, who cheered them on and contributed generously. “We want to show our patients that we’re with them every step of the way.” said Luke Myatt from the Cancer Prehabilitation Team.
Thanks to the team’s hard work and the community’s generosity, the challenge raised an impressive £928.05. All proceeds will go towards the Going the Extra Mile for Cancer Appeal, which aims to transform Singleton’s old Chemotherapy Day Unit into a modern, welcoming outpatient suite.

Cake Sale a Sweet Success for Breast Care Centre

A cake sale in Singleton Hospital proved a sweet success by raising £721 for the Breast Care Centre.
Cakes were made by past and present patients along with staff for the event, which was held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The event not only generated funds to support patients having treatment, it also raised awareness of the disease.
Cakes were sold in the hospital’s Breast Care Centre and outside the canteen.
Husna Begum, Service Manager for the Breast Service, said: “The event was a great success and we’re delighted with the amount raised.
“The cakes, as in past events, were made by patients who have either received treatment from the service or are currently being treated, while staff also made cakes too.
“With the funds raised we are looking at purchasing a new gowns for patients and putting money towards a water fountain in the Breast Care Centre.
“The Breast Service would like to thank all our wonderful volunteers for giving up their time and baking such delicious cakes.”
Curry Night Raises £386 for Cwtsh Natur Appeal!
The staff at Neath Port Talbot Children’s Centre are a passionate and dedicated team, who have been fundraising enthusiastically since the launch of the Cwtsh Natur appeal in June 2025.
Among their many efforts (including raffles, bake sales, and other events) was a fantastic curry night at Zafran in Skewen. What better way to celebrate and fundraise than over a delicious meal? NHS staff, charity ambassadors, patients, and families came together to enjoy a two-course feast.
With an on-the-night raffle, a lively game of heads and tails, and everyone’s generous contributions for their meals, the event raised an impressive £386.
A huge thank you to everyone involved – we’re incredibly grateful for your support!
