Fantastic Fundraising: November

Conquering Pen Y Fan to Give Back
A huge thank you to Rhiannon and Simon Jones, and the Ammanford Under 15s and Under 17s Girls football teams, coaches and parents, who took on the iconic Pen Y Fan to raise an incredible £3,000 for Swansea Bay Health Charity.
Standing at 886m, Pen Y Fan is South Wales’ highest peak – a climb known locally for its steep ascent and stunning views. Inspired by the exceptional care Simon’s mother received at Singleton Hospital during chemotherapy, and later at Morriston Hospital after emergency surgery, the family wanted to give something back.
Simon’s son, Leo, set the tone with an extraordinary challenge: climbing Pen Y Fan eight times in just 24 hours! The girls’ teams, coaches and parents later joined the climb, turning a personal challenge into a powerful community effort full of teamwork, strength and heart.
The family has already met staff at Singleton to say thank you, with a visit to Morriston planned soon.
Their fundraising will support Singleton Oncology and two Morriston Hospital wards – Surgical Assessment Unit and Pembroke Ward – helping staff continue life-changing care.
This extraordinary act of generosity shows what’s possible when a community comes together. Thank you to everyone involved!
Tata Steel Spreads Cheer to Local Children
We’re delighted to shine a spotlight on Tata Steel, who have chosen to support the Cwtsh Natur appeal as their 2024 Christmas charity initiative.
Cwtsh Natur aims to raise £200,000 to completely transform the outdoor space at Neath Port Talbot Children’s Centre, creating a safe, accessible, sensory-rich garden for children and young people with additional needs.
Tata Steel has already made an incredible start, raising £1,750 through a bake sale and festive raffle! They continue to fundraise in the run-up to Christmas, with an auction and bucket collections planned during their Christmas party, meaning the final amount is still growing!
Alongside their fundraising efforts, Tata Steel colleagues are also taking part in a special Christmas Tag Appeal, selecting gift tags and purchasing presents for 125 local children who regularly attend the centre. This kind gesture from Tata Steel ensures that they will get a Christmas to remember, making it extra special.
We are so grateful for Tata Steel’s support and community spirit! Together, we’re helping build a local nature space for child health and well-being.

Richard Burton 10K, Cwtsh Natur and Joel Oates!

We’re delighted to celebrate the incredible support received through this year’s Richard Burton 10K. After the event generously donated 20 charity places to Swansea Bay Health Charity, our runners and their fantastic supporters raised an amazing £2,312!
A huge thank you goes to our Neath Port Talbot Children’s Centre staff who not only took part but embraced the fundraising challenge with passion and pride, helping shine a light on the appeal and the difference it will make.
We’d also like to give special recognition to our Charity Ambassador, Joel Oates, who joined us to cheer on participants and help spread the word. Joel and his mum, Clare, have their own personal connection with the Children’s Centre, with Joel having received care and support there when he was younger. Clare describes the centre as a “familiar, safe place” filled with “welcoming, kind and fun” staff who made hospital visits something to look forward to.
This brilliant fundraising effort shows the power of community, determination and teamwork. Thank you to everyone who ran, donated, encouraged or helped along the way.
Caravan Park Raises £1,500 for Cancer Services
Burrows Caravan Park in Port Eynon has once again shown the power of community fundraising through their annual men’s and women’s AGM charity weekend, raising £1,500! Known for its lively atmosphere, the event brings families together for fancy dress, fun activities and donation collections from both the park and the wider local community.
This year, the group chose to support the Going the Extra Mile for Cancer appeal, in honour of the care received by resident Robert Myles. Their enthusiasm and generosity resulted in an incredible £1,500 raised!
Anna Illes, Head of Service – Radiotherapy, shared her thanks:
“From all of us in the Radiotherapy team, we’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone at Burrows Caravan Park. Your generous donation will make a real difference for patients, like Rob, throughout their treatment. The caravan park community has supported the South West Wales Cancer Centre for many years, and we truly appreciate your ongoing commitment. It was wonderful to see Rob looking so well after his treatment!”
A huge thank you to everyone involved. Your support continues to change lives.
