Festive Fun Raising in Swansea Bay

As a charity, it’s no surprise that Swansea Bay Health Charity is busier around the festive season. However, as the charity of the Swansea Bay University Health Board, many of the gifts we receive at this time of year are not monetary but come in the form of time, effort and kindness, resulting in countless smiles across our hospitals! We’ve already had so many exciting visitors that we’re excited to share with you!
From dinosaurs to footballers and therapy dogs, our local partners and supporters have helped bring warmth and joy into spaces that can sometimes feel clinical or overwhelming. Their generosity continues to create positive, lasting memories for patients, families and staff.

Dinomania Brings a Rumble to Morriston
There was a rumble at the front doors of Morriston Hospital on 8th December 2025!
A huge thank you to Dinomania for bringing festive cheer – and their incredible robot dinosaurs – to the paediatric ward. It was a magical experience for our young patients, who were absolutely captivated by the lifelike movements and excitement. The visit truly brightened the Christmas season for everyone at Swansea Bay Health Charity and Swansea Bay University Health Board.

Swansea City’s Vigouroux Visits Cwtsh Clos and Ward 5
Swansea City Football Club sponsored Cwtsh Clos appeal during the 2024-25 season, helping transform the homes into comforting spaces for families with babies receiving neonatal care. Their support has meant the world to parents, staff and supporters alike.
Goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux took a special interest in the appeal after his own child received NICU care. Having previously visited before the transformation was complete, Lawrence returned to see the finished homes – now warm, welcoming and full of festive touches. Swansea City FC also donated and decorated a Christmas tree, adding a homely sparkle for the families staying there.
Lawrence then visited families on Singleton Ward 5, where sick and tiny babies receive care every day. He spent time speaking with parents and staff, expressing his gratitude for the incredible work carried out across Swansea Bay.

Special Characters Bring The Magic
Morriston Paediatrics Ward was taken by a snowstorm on 8th December, being visited by Elsa, Anna, Spiderman and Buddy the Elf! The whole ward was brightened by the talented team of professional performers by Glass Slipper Parties who created magical, memorable experiences for children receiving care in Morriston Hospital. We think the staff had just as much fun though!
Then on 10th December, the ward was visited by the wonderful Harley Quinn and Batman, who were accompanied by Swansea Council leader, Rob Stewart and Andrea Williams! Bet you didn’t expect to see that superhero combo together!

DVLA Donates Gifts to Children’s Ward
Staff from the DVLA brought festive generosity to Morriston Hospital with a delivery of Christmas gifts for children spending the holidays in hospital. Their thoughtful donation brought huge smiles to young patients and offered comfort to families during what can be an emotional time of year. Acts of kindness like this remind our patients that their community is thinking of them – and that no child should feel forgotten at Christmas.

Kev Johns Visits Chemo
Much-loved Swansea entertainer and broadcaster Kev Johns paid a heart-warming visit to the Chemotherapy Ward (Ward 9) at Singleton Hospital on Monday 10th November 2025. His humour and warmth brought light, laughter and a welcome lift to both patients and staff.

Therapy Dog Visits Paediatric Ward
On Tuesday, we were delighted to welcome Holly, the therapy dog, to Morriston Hospital’s paediatric ward. Therapy dogs like Holly offer immense comfort, companionship and reassurance to young patients. Her gentle presence helped reduce anxiety and created moments of calm and happiness for families and staff alike. We’re incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from Pets As Therapy.

Joseph Smile Deliver Goody Bags
Children’s cancer charity Joseph’s Smile delivered 200 Christmas goody bags, 70 reindeer teddy bears and a bundle of selection boxes to the Morriston paediatric ward.
Their kindness brought a wave of festive joy, and plenty of jolly faces! A special thank you goes to Tesco Ammanford for donating the selection boxes.
Joseph’s Smile provides grants to children to access lifesaving or life-changing medical treatment or equipment that’s currently not available to them on the NHS.
What’s Next?
We have even more festive visits on the way from some great personalities and local businesses, who will be visiting our wards and our Lighting up Lives at Christmas tree at the hospitals.
Thank you to everyone who has donated presents, time, effort or money this Christmas season. Your kindness means the world to Swansea Bay NHS staff and patients and highlights the incredible strength of our local community.
