Fantastic Fundraising: April

Every month, we shine a light on the incredible fundraising happening across Swansea Bay and beyond – celebrating the people turning compassion into action. This April has been filled with inspiring stories, each rooted in personal experiences, gratitude and the desire to give back. Every pound raised and every donation made is helping to make a real difference to our local NHS, enhancing care and supporting patients, staff and families across Swansea Bay University Health Board.
Port Talbot Community Leads the Way

A heartfelt thank you to St Therese’s Catholic Primary School for their incredible support of World Down Syndrome Day, raising £265 for the Cwtsh Natur Appeal.
Pupils and staff proudly wore green and odd socks before taking part in a walk to Aberavon Seafront, joined by our fantastic charity ambassador Joel Oates, who delivered an inspiring speech to the children.
Moments like these go far beyond fundraising – they help build understanding, kindness and inclusion from the earliest age. Thank you to the whole school community for showing such heartfelt support.
We’d also like to say a huge thank you to Aberavon Green Stars for taking part in Odd Socks Day for World Down Syndrome Day and raising £175 for the same appeal. A special thank you goes to Joel’s uncle for organising this – a brilliant example of community spirit in action.
Together, these efforts are helping transform the Cwtsh Natur Appeal into something truly special for children with additional needs across our communities.
London Marathon Heroes for NICU

Some fundraising stories are born from the most personal beginnings.
This month, Delyth Mathias raised an incredible £1,615 for Singleton NICU after running the London Marathon. Her nephew Llion received care there after being born five weeks early:
“NICU cared for him when he was born five weeks early. The care he received was truly exceptional. I’d like to give something back.”
Another inspiring runner, Wendy Price, raised £755 running the same marathon in fancy dress. A close friend’s baby was born at just 26 weeks and remains under NICU care.
Wendy shared:
“They provided accommodation for them to stay at the hospital and support through this hard time. The baby is doing well and has over doubled in weight but is still in there. So I’d just like to do something to show how appreciative people are of what they provide.”
Two incredible stories from two inspirational ladies. Thank you Delyth and Wendy!
Baking for a Better Future
A huge thank you to the Finance Department at Tata Steel for their brilliant Easter bake sale, raising £282 for the Cwtsh Natur Appeal!
Every cake baked, sold and shared helped bring us one step closer to creating a safe, sensory-rich outdoor space for children with additional needs at Neath Port Talbot Children’s Centre.
It’s a simple idea with a powerful impact, and a reminder that even workplace creativity can help change lives.
Kickstarting Jiffy’s 50 Fundraising
This year’s Jiffy’s Cancer 50 Challenge has already raised £1,366 for Swansea Bay Health Charity and Velindre Cancer Centre, with more still to come.
Top fundraisers so far include Paul Cox (£164), Neil White (£140) and Nicola Jones (£85), who shared a deeply personal reason for taking part:
“The date marks 5 years ago my Dad passed away from this horrible disease. He fought a good fight but cancer took him in the end and we all miss him so much. I want to give back and raise as much as possible to support these charities so they can help other people through the worst time of their lives”.
Taking place on 16 August 2026, riders will travel from Cardiff, through Swansea, and finish at Bracelet Bay after a police-escorted final stretch – celebrating together at the end of an incredible journey.
With over 200 entrants already signed up and more joining every week, the event is on track to build on last year’s £55,000 total, all in support of cancer services across South and West Wales.

We’re so grateful to every single person who fundraised for our NHS charity this month. Your support goes so much further than you’ll ever know – it allows us to provide comfort to local patients, families and staff within the Swansea Bay University Health Board. If you’ve ever thought about fundraising, now is the time! You don’t need a big event or a huge team. Just an idea, a cause you care about, and the willingness to make a difference.
We would love to help you bring your idea to life.
