Fantastic Fundraising: May

Every month, we celebrate the incredible fundraising taking place across Swansea Bay and beyond – shining a light on the people turning compassion into action. This May, supporters across our communities have continued to go the extra mile for local NHS patients, staff and families, raising vital funds through sport, challenges and community events.
Sean Swims 20 Miles for Cancer Care

After receiving radiotherapy treatment at the South West Wales Cancer Centre, Sean Rolfe decided to give back by taking on an incredible challenge – swimming 20 miles throughout May and June for the Going the Extra Mile Appeal.
Sean shared:
“I would like to raise funds for them as a thank you for all they did for me and all they do for those affected by cancer. The level of care is second to none and I will forever be grateful to them.”
Sean received 20 sessions of radiotherapy treatment and chose to reflect this by swimming 20 miles in both the pool and sea.
He added:
“It was at this point that I met the Radiotherapy team – a finer bunch of people you couldn’t hope to meet. They made what could’ve been such a traumatic experience into one that – I can’t say I enjoyed or would recommend – but was beyond bearable. Their grace and care were second to none.”
Thank you Sean for sharing your story and supporting cancer care across Swansea Bay.
Jack Runs to Give Back

Jack O’Connell is taking on the Swansea Half Marathon on 7th June in support of the Going the Extra Mile for Cancer Appeal after two of his loved ones received chemotherapy treatment at Singleton Hospital over the past two years.
Wanting to give back to the services that cared for his family, Jack has already raised an incredible £521 ahead of the event. Jack shares:
“I will never be able to fully understand what they’ve been through, but I hope to give something back for the care they received by running the Swansea Half Marathon in June.”
Thank you Jack for your amazing support and dedication to local cancer care.
Brew Run Club Supports Touched by Cancer
A huge thank you to Samantha Theron and the women-only Brew Run Club in Neath, who raised an incredible £359 in support of one of the teams taking part in this year’s Touched by Cancer tournament.
The event brought runners together from across the community to support local cancer services while backing a fantastic cause close to many hearts. Thank you to everyone who ran, donated and supported the fundraiser – your community spirit has been amazing to see!
Tonna Turbettes Raise £7,600 in Memory of Andrew
An incredible thank you to Tonna Turbettes, who raised an amazing £7,673.23 in memory of Andrew Spittle through a touch rugby tournament and charity curry night held earlier this month.
The team said:
“What started as a day to remember Andrew became something truly special, filled with friendship, community, laughter and love.”
Andrew received care from Singleton Cancer Unit during his battle with cancer, and all funds raised will support the Going the Extra Mile for Cancer Appeal to help improve facilities for patients and families.
The team will also be taking part in this year’s Touched by Cancer tournament in August, continuing their incredible support for local cancer services.

Shine Cymru Supports Cwtsh Natur
A huge thank you to Shine Cymru, whose young adults have already raised £358 for the Cwtsh Natur Appeal through raffles and fundraising events at their centre.
The group hope to raise £1,000 throughout the year through sponsored walks, cake sales, parties and fancy dress days.
Hayley from Shine Cymru shared:
“We have chosen to fundraise for Cwtsh Natur as we think that this is an extremely worthwhile cause to help families within the local community.”

We are so grateful to everyone fundraising for Swansea Bay Health Charity this month. Every fundraiser, challenge and event helps us continue supporting patients, families and staff across Swansea Bay University Health Board!
