Going the Extra Mile for Cancer
Transforming Cancer Care at Singleton Hospital.

At Swansea Bay Health Charity, we are committed to making a difference for people affected by cancer.
That’s why we launched the Going the Extra Mile for Cancer Appeal – a campaign dedicated to creating a new outpatients department within the former chemotherapy unit at Singleton Hospital. Currently, the space feels clinical and outdated. With your support, we want to transform it into a warm, welcoming environment that truly enhances the patient journey.
Our Going the Extra Mile for Cancer appeal launched in September 2024, with the ambitious goal of raising £200,000 to enhance care for patients, support their families, and provide extra resources for the dedicated staff at the cancer centre. Thanks to generous donations and incredible fundraising efforts so far, we are making a real impact – but we still need your help!
Why Your Support Matters
Every year, thousands of people in our community walk through the doors of Singleton Hospital for cancer treatment and support. We know from listening to patients and families that the environment plays a huge role in their experience.
Your donations will help us:
● Bring care together in one place – patients will be able to see consultants, nurses, pharmacists, and therapy teams all in the same department, making care easier to access and more coordinated.
● Create a space of comfort and dignity – instead of feeling clinical, the department will be designed to feel calm, supportive, and welcoming.
● Reopen the volunteer-run tea bar – more than just a place for refreshments, the tea bar provides a friendly face and a moment of normality for patients and families during what can be a very difficult time.
The Impact of Your Support
By donating or fundraising for the Going the Extra Mile for Cancer Appeal, you’re helping us go beyond treatment. You’re helping us care for the whole person. Together, we can:
● Reduce stress and anxiety for patients.
● Improve the coordination of appointments and treatments.
● Offer spaces that feel less like a hospital and more like a community of support.
How You Can Help
Swansea legend Kev Johns, who has faced his own battle with cancer, is backing the appeal and encouraging everyone to get involved:
“Host a tea party or coffee morning, run a 10K, take on a sponsored walk. Every effort, big or small, makes a difference. This is an incredible centre, and with your support, we can make it even better.”
Events like this bring the community together while raising vital funds to improve cancer care in South West Wales. Get involved, participate, and support in any way you can!
Spread The Word
Whether you’re running your own fundraiser, getting involved in one of our events, or simply want to support the cause, you can help us reach more people across Swansea Bay and beyond by sharing on social media.
Thank you!
Kev Johns with Chemotherapy Sister, Emma Morgan.
