A grateful family have raised £3,000 for Singleton Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) after their baby boy received lifesaving care following a premature birth.

Jess Phillips and her partner Jack welcomed their son Brody in August 2024 at just 28 weeks, weighing just 3lbs. Little Brody faced a series of serious health challenges in his first days of life, including underdeveloped lungs, multiple blood transfusions, bleeds on the brain and a bleed on his lung. Thanks to the dedication and round-the-clock care of the NICU team, Brody pulled through and was discharged in October 2024 – coming home on oxygen before making a full recovery earlier this year.

As a way of saying thank you to the doctors and nurses who cared for Brody, Jack and family friend Harry Phillips took on The Long Course Weekend (LCW) marathon in Tenby, Wales, and set up a fundraising page in support of Singleton NICU. Together, they raised £3,000, which was donated on Wednesday 17th September to Swansea Bay Health Charity to help purchase new equipment for the NICU.

Brody’s mum, Jess is passionate about giving back to Singleton NICU:

“We really can’t ever put into words how incredibly grateful we are to each and every member of staff that cared so lovingly for Brody. They truly are our superheroes, and if it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t have our boy today. This is just a small way of saying thank you for everything they did for us.”

Brody’s family and friends have raised an incredible £3,000, which will make a lasting difference for future premature babies, their families, and the dedicated staff in our NICU. It was very special to welcome Brody and his family back to the ward to present their generous donation and reconnect with the nurses who cared for him during those difficult first weeks.”
